The San Benito Leadership Institute (SBLI) is a 501©(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating a diverse community of leaders who will serve, unite and benefit San Benito County. Our flagship program is a transformative nine-month leadership experience running from September to May. Through this immersive experience, participants gain the tools, knowledge, and connections needed to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Participants attend nine full-day sessions, each centered around a unique theme blending inclusive leadership practices with leadership development and community engagement.
Each day of our flagship program includes:
Civic Immersion: A deep dive into local issues, including history, economic development, public safety, and more, providing participants with insights into the unique challenges and opportunities within the region.
Leadership Development: Activities and discussions focused on building core leadership skills, such as self-awareness, conflict navigation, and collaborative decision-making, with an emphasis on wellness and building legacy.
Board Skills Training: Practical tools and strategies for effective board service, governance, and community stewardship.
Participants benefit from individualized assessments, such as CliftonStrengths, designed to foster self-awareness and growth. Experiential learning, small group discussions, and hands-on activities ensure a dynamic and impactful experience. Our flagship program also incorporates regular evaluation and feedback to adapt and enhance the curriculum based on participant needs throughout the program year.
SBLI’s ultimate goal is to cultivate a network of informed, compassionate, and effective leaders committed to the long-term vitality of San Benito County. Through our flagship program and future initiatives, participants and community members are empowered to take on leadership roles that drive positive change and build a stronger, more connected community.

Our graduates hold leadership positions throughout San Benito County and actively return to mentor and teach in our flagship program and future offerings.
